Pre K – 8th Grade

The 2023 REGISTRATION period CLOSES:

GRADES PRE-K THROUGH 8:  NO Registrations will be accepted AFTER Friday, October 27 – except for families new to the St. Mary’s Parish community arriving after the deadline.

St. Mary’s Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade sessions meet several times a year on Sunday mornings. Pre-K parents attend with their children. The sessions are built around a theme, often seasonal, and consist of artwork, a short presentation on the theme, and a craft. The children are assigned to a colored “T Station” where they gather with their teachers for their art and craft work. The entire group gathers on rugs for the day’s teaching presentation and for prayer.

Our Second Grade program prepares the children for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. It consists of two parent meetings, regular classes, some work done at home with parents between classes, a series of special Sunday Masses, a church tour, general review sessions before receiving the sacraments and a rehearsal before First Communion. The First Communion celebrations are the culmination of a year of dedicated work and preparation and are a joyous and wonderful experience for all involved.

Grades 3 – 6 meet roughly twice a month for an hour and a half. In addition to regular classes, there are occasional general sessions where all the students meet together. Examples are the Third Grade rosary making session and a Sixth Grade session on how the Bible speaks to us. There are outreach projects including the annual Fourth Grade food drive and baptismal garments made by Fifth Graders for babies baptized here at St. Mary’s. The fifth graders also sponsor an annual Healing Mass where the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is celebrated.

Grades 7 & 8 meet on alternating Sunday and Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30. Sessions generally include a presentation to the whole group, followed by small group discussion.

Students in grades 3 – 8 usually include an opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation once a year.
