The Massachusetts Catholic Women’s Guild (M.C.W.G.)
The purpose of the S.M.C.W.G. is to provide opportunity for women to socialize in the parish, and to aid with the charitable needs of the local community.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month from September through June at 7:00 PM except for the winter months of January and February. We meet in the Library in the St. Mary’s Parish Center.
Our group begins meetings with prayer and has an activity and/or speaker for each month. We always have time to socialize and plan ways that we can help in the community.
Many of the members crochet and/or knit and make projects not only for their family, but also to raise money to help as needed in the local community. These members and others meet on Wednesday mornings after the WINGS group and earlier during the summer months. Most of these members learned crochet from a member in the group who is an expert and teaches crocheting at Adult Ed classes. She volunteers her time and skills to assist anyone who is interested in learning the art of crochet. Everyone shares their knowledge and some of the crocheters who have been most challenged have been seen teaching others. Most of the crocheted and knit items are sold at a craft sale in the parish, but a few are given to other charities as needed. Recently we finished a special blanket to be raffled off at the Fatima Shrine at the request of Father Joe for the Xaverian Mission in China.
